Thinking parsimony here why not create a new profile first prior to the
  uninstall. Also, have you run a scanpst on the *.pst file? That may also be
  a source of your problems. Run the scanpst until there are no errors. Even
  though it will make a backup I would make a separate one.

  There are some other error events listed in Event Viewer. I am looking at
  the Windows Logs, Application section, and there are several with Error
  messages. For example, I see several error messages for something called
  SidebySide and some other programs I have on my computer. When I look at the
  Applications and Service Logs-Microsoft-Office Sessions, I see lots of error
  entries. They all say "this session ended with a crash", so my next step
  will be to uninstall/reinstall. I have backups (I backup three times a
  week), so I am not concerned about losing data.
  
  I'll post back after I've been able to uninstall/reinstall.

  the tests, it suggests that the hard drive is not the problem.
  
  You might start looking at other culprits.
  
  Unfortunately, this is where a repair shop has the advantage .. they have
  spare parts they can plug in.
  
  You can buy a power supply tester, but that is probably not cost effective
  for you.
  
  Are all events in Event Viewer associated with Outlook?
  
  It's fairly simple to uninstall/reinstall Office. All of your documents and
  email should not be affected, although you would want to back them up just
