RE: [Simply Computers] How Best to Test Seagate ST31500341AS

Joan,

I wanted to thank you for the suggestion that I run Hiren's BootCD in safe
mode. I was able to do that, although it took me a little while to figure it
out. I was able to access what was on the disc through Windows Explorer. I
realized, however, that once I was in the DOS menu of program, I really
didn't know how to run the programs and couldn't figure it out. My
frustration level at that point was too high, and I couldn't get the
patience I needed to try to figure out the programs.

I have posted an update, and hope you see it.

Again, thanks for your help. You were spot on!

Ellen

When I was asked to help a neighbor, who had Charter techs come out 3 times
and she still could not get online. I was at a loss that her Dell that would
not let me boot from the CD. So I tried booting in Safe Mode and was able to
run Ccleaner and perhaps other malware tools. I was able to boot up regular
and get online to download the necessary programs and updates.

I couldn't even get online with a Linux Live CD, probably because Charter
had locked her very sick computer out of it. After I cleaned it up, the BIOS
allowed me to boot with a Linux Live CD for testing.

Sometimes I think a fellow tech told me it had to do with Dell interleaving,
or something like that. Anyway, I don't buy OEM computers until they're
about $10.00 at the local sale or thrift shop. Now I can find out how things
differ between AMD and Intel 64-bit finally.

Sorry my links don't work for some, but then AOL used to as bad as Norton to
get rid of, too. That's why I've started to put in the search string, so
they can look further for themselves.

How would you run Hiren's Boot CD in the safe?
