Did the computer's BIOS see it? Does the Control Panel see it? For testing, I use Puppy Linux, Lubuntu or an Ubuntu-based CD/DVD Live CD to use their drive tool to show disk health. Sometimes Linux can use a drive that Windows can't, it might be where the bad sectors or other defects are located on its platters.
