When I was asked to help a neighbor, who had Charter techs come out 3 times and she still could not get online. I was at a loss that her Dell that would not let me boot from the CD. So I tried booting in Safe Mode and was able to run Ccleaner and perhaps other malware tools. I was able to boot up regular and get online to download the necessary programs and updates.

I couldn't even get online with a Linux Live CD, probably because Charter had locked her very sick computer out of it. After I cleaned it up, the BIOS allowed me to boot with a Linux Live CD for testing.

Sometimes I think a fellow tech told me it had to do with Dell interleaving, or something like that. Anyway, I don't buy OEM computers until they're about $10.00 at the local sale or thrift shop. Now I can find out how things differ between AMD and Intel 64-bit finally.

Sorry my links don't work for some, but then AOL used to as bad as Norton to get rid of, too. That's why I've started to put in the search string, so they can look further for themselves.

How would you run Hiren's Boot CD in the safe?

Perhaps because it's a Dell, you may need to run the Hiren's CD in Safe Mode, instead of as a Live CD. Many of the Tools can be run that way...

  Hi all,

I have an update. I e-mailed Hiren's website to find out what the original

error message I got when I tried to run HDAT2 meant (the error message said

"Load error: no DPMI get csdpmi*b.zip). I just got a reply with two attached

files, and instructions to replace the attached files in the HBCD\DOS

  folder.

I have tried copying the files to the folder on the disc several times. Once

when I tried I got a message that the files could not be copied because the

disk is write protected. Other times when I copied and pasted the files

using Windows Explorer, it looked like the files were being copied. However,

when I looked at the contents of the HBCFD\DOS folder on the disc, the two

files that I copied still have the same "date modified" as all of the other

files, so I'm not sure the files were copied after all.

So that you don't have to read all of the other e-mails-the disc I am

copying to was an .iso disc, which I burned properly. It does boot from the

disc, but I can't run the HDAT2 program.

What am I doing incorrectly? How can I copy these files to the disc?

  Thanks,

  Ellen
