Speed & torque basically, steppers aren't meant to be run fast while BLDC motors are.  
  
  They also have different torque curves.  Steppers have high torque at low speed, but lose torque as the RPM's go up, and may be 'out of puff' when run over a few hundred RPM.  
  
  Meanwhile BLDC motor have low starting torque by comparison but that goes up with speed, reaching peak torque at a much higher RPM than for a stepper.
  
  (Yeah it varies depending on the motor, driver etc; read the datasheet.)
  
  However as the name suggests steppers can be rotated to an exact position which is really useful.  Think of a rotary table on a mill where you can precisely turn it to any angle, that's what a stepper can do.
