Re: [Amateur-repairs] Old test eqpt? Chuck it? Refurbish it?

Well,  what happened to my old radios, and cars?

Radios and test stuff found a corner to hide somewhere, but my '63 Oldsmobile   could not find a corner so there was little choice for it; and all the other vehicles that came along.

Much of the old stuff has lots of character, even if they are just shelf queens.

The more recent stuff might do magic, but oncea bit of the smoke comes out, you got a little black box that looks as useless as the other black boxes: 90% LCD screen and maybe some touch buttons.

But, Switching bands on my NC-2-40D  gives me lots of tactile feedback, and the HRO sixty even more, while for the new stuff, pecking at a screen like a bird feels really weird, and makes you lose your human masculinity: all you can do now is peck at a screen, so the NEW teck world is reducing your movements to that if stationary bird.

Back to the question what value does it have to you? And maybe to a few others?

If you look back at old furniture [that everyone might have used] what is left? ; usually the high quality stuff, and more so ,the useful high quality stuff. Sooner or later only the quality stuff and unique stuff will remain. But hey 78's  are back.

End of this ramble.
