I wouldn't mind playing with some of that stuff...

Well, first off I don't do facebook. And, while I'd be interested in some of that stuff, I probably couldn't do much more than the cost of shipping as well. If you're inclined to part with some of it, let's take it up in email and we'll figure it out from there.

I'm rather fond of those things, and have only *one* bit of gear that has one in it...

Sure. But I do get comments from people who come in here about how "well equipped" my shop seems to be. :-)

Re: [electronics101] Old test equipment made new again

Hi Steven,

Many people are in the same boat. There are a lot of old test equipment which is not use able, but I will not trash it anyway. Your idea to do something with that is very good.

Over the years, many people contacted me via my website (HomebrewHub.org) and donated many items. Those units which can be repaired and are use able, I give away to other HAM's or make use of them. The surplus I usually put on the "free stuff" table on next ham fest.

Try that approach. Bring your surplus items on the next ham fest and make some people happy.

Steve -

Sounds like my garage/shop! Lots of old Heath/Eico stuff.  I even have an original Simpson 260 (with the flat silkscreened panel - I've been told it's the series 0), vintage ~1939, inherited from my dad.  Growing up just post depression & through WWII, I have problems throwing ANYTHING away! And sometimes even wind up using it.

I think it's your equipment to do with as you please. If someone doesn't
value it more as it is, then make it into something that you find more
to your liking and enjoy the new gear!

Re: [atlas-craftsman IO] Test Post

Bruce & Andrei,

The reason for my test post was to prove that groups.io is still up and running.  Someone mistakenly posted to the old Yahoo Atlas_Craftsman address which is supposed to be shut down, but Yahoo, indicating further degradation of their server, let it and several other replying posts through.  No one had posted to Atlas-Craftsman@groups.io in a little over two weeks so I was just making sure that it still worked.

Re: [7x12MiniLathe] Test Message

In Thunderbird, both of your messages are still threaded.  If you
look at the message source, you will find a line called "Thread-Index:"
with some hashed data after it.  That line determines what thread, and
where in that thread your message belongs.

Microsoft is quite well known for breaking the way things are
supposed to be.  I wouldn't doubt that they did something to Outlook to
make it more friendly for novice users.

Re: [7x12MiniLathe] Test Message

The index key for topics is usually the subject line in most browsers.  It is really considered a benefit that this happens.  (And this is probably in your browser, not in the group software).  The alternative is to eliminate the thread concept and have the end user (you and I) sort them manually (which I have been driven to so I can find stuff....)

Consider a discussion on a manual lathe operation and someone wants to discuss the CAM version and setup.  Each thread can go its separate way.  Each reader can stay in the lane of his interest.

Also, if you look back at topics on this group, we always seem to start with a turning issue, drift through a carbide versus HSS discussion and slide past sharpening HSS and seem to end up with tailstock alignment followed by a sound thumping of the 7x as a whole.

Had the subject line been edited, each topic would be available as a separate read (or not read as the case may be) and would certainly be easier to find mixed in with all the posts with the subject 'tailstock alignment'.

One man's feature is certainly another man's bug, but look at what it can do as well as what it cant.  All cuts can't be made with a parting tool.....

Share your frustration,
Warren L

Re: [7x12MiniLathe] Test Message

Apple's Mail app for iOS keeps it in the same thread as the Procedure posts. Maybe Outlook doesn't do "thread by MessageID".

I can't see the headers here on the iPhone, so I can't be sure as to what Mail is keying on, but I would guess that it follows the In-Reply-To header and groups each message with the previous in the thread.
