Hmmm, well it looks to me that changing the subject line did   in fact start a new topic. I was told that doing this does not start a new   topic, but at least to me it appears that it does.

Much of what you all are taking about is done by the software on   your own computer.  So little details like selecting text then clicking   "reply", if that works or not depends on what software you are using.   
  
  
  
An Apple iPad running IOS-12 is much different from a Windows   PC.  And even on the PC are you using Chrome or some other browser?
  But on every platform there is some way to do what you want.   That   should be to include only as much of the previous text as is needed.   In   this case I  am responding in general, not to a specific comment so I   deleted all but the title.
