[7x10minilathe] Re: Dial Indicater/Dial Test Indicator set & Laser tachometer

You may be able to adjust the pots on the speed control board to improve low end torque. There's a generic procedure here:

http://www.mini-lathe.com/Mini_lathe/Modifications/modifications.htm#slow_speed

You should be able to find a data sheet for the board that's in your machine once you open it up & can see the manufacturer's name & model number on the board.

Still, for really controllable high torque low speed work, a hand crank can't be beat!

Also, while I can slow the lathe down below about 70rpm it pretty much stalls at those speeds. So much for the specs. At first I thought I was going to have to put some black tape around the chuck, but the reflective tape seems to work OK without doing that. Not a bad deal for $17. Of course, I will soon have an idea of how fast the lathe is turning at what dial settings without the tach, and it will become another piece of junk in the drawer; which is why I did not want to spend much on it.
