Heathkit IG-3120 FET/Transistor testerI have one of these transistor checkers. I assembled it in 1977 and have been using it ever since. It has the ability to change the current through the transistor to measure changes in gain or in some cases total failure. I really like this feature and am still using it while working on classic stereo equipment. I would like to get rid of the batteries but there is no room inside to construct two 1.5 volt power supplies. For that matter 2 volt supplies would work fine. This tester has one small problem that you must deal with. When testing transistors with high current, the battery connection must be perfect or the reading will waver. You need to know if this waver is a transistor fault or just the battery. I solder my batteries into this tester to stop this problem. I keep considering the possibility of making a power supply that has two 2 volt supplies. It would have to be external and I hate to have this tester in two pieces.
