Re: [Amateur-repairs] Opinions and thoughts on some old Heathkit test gear

Hi Tim,

I have #1 that was given to me and I can't return the favor.
#2, I'll leave that to the more learned members
#3    Now this might be useful for those working on vintage televisions, crt's, etc...  There are groups in Ohio and in NJ.  For the group in NJ, look up https://infoage.org/  I'd post a question to the New Jersey Antique Radio Club.  They have members interested in Television.  For the Early Television Foundation in Ohio, go to: https://www.earlytelevision.org/

My hope is they will give you some advise.

Subject: [Amateur-repairs] Opinions and thoughts on some old Heathkit test gear

Hi all- ---

1.
I was recently given a Heathkit IG-28 color bar and dot generator, used for aligning now-largely-nonexistent TVs and monitors.

I'm wondering what, if any, other purposes people can think of for this piece of equipment?
Looking around on eBay, this doesn't seem to be particularly valuable  -- many auctions complete with no sale, and the few that do, are below $15.00
So I'm not particularly inclined to try to sell it --
It would seem to be potentially more useful

2. Heathkit IG-3120  FET/Transistor tester
I have two of these
This seems like it'd have potentially some greater value.
But how much more accurate/better of a piece of test gear might this be
than a more modern DMM or even one of those parts ID LCD boards on Ebay (which I have one of)

If it's a decent tester that does better/more than a modern DMM or other gear, I may keep one and sell the other.
Seems like they can go for enough to bother with...

3. Eico Flyback XFMR and Yoke Tester Model 944

This also is another piece of gear that tests things which no longer exist.

Might it be re-usable as a power supply for HV purposes or something?
As in, rebuild it to be a power supply for a one-tube transmitter or something?

Again, not worth much on Ebay, and the potential parts inside may be worth more
than the actual meter is ---
Possibly useful for rebuilding into something more useful?
