#3.  Flyback and yoke ringer still has value as a switching power supply transformer tester.  You can to this day buy new ring testers:. http://www.electronicrepairguide.com/blue-ring-tester.html

Completely handy when you need one but how many times unless you're in the business are you going to check a switch mode power supply transformer for shorted winding?
