Look on ebay and some of the function generators from China. They are from about $ 15 shipped but are not in a case, to about $ 70 that are in a case. I bought one that goes from below the audio range to about 25 mhz for around $ 65. I bought a MHS-5200 for around $ 65. There is a modification on youtube that shows how to install a few changes that cost me about $ 15 from Digikey for the parts that cleans up the square waves at the higher frequencies.
It even has a frequency counter in it and goes to 25 mhz. The negative thing is it is not shielded so not too goof for RF, but should be fine for audio. I have a very accurate service monitor to compare it with and that counter is off about 140 hz or less at 20 mhz most of the time. Not bad for the price.
You can not buy the parts to put together an inexpensive one for the price of the $ 15 units for less.
