Kurt, with all due respect, the MC1496 is a 4-quadrant multiplier chip.
You can generate some DSB with, but to have only the LSB or USB, you still
need a filter (mechanical, crystal, ceramic, whatever...).

Are you looking to buy something, or build something? There are several
LSB/USB generator 14 pic ICs out there that require very few parts.

OK on the IC-705 set up, I have dummy loads and an Audio patch cable to feed Audio from any source into the radio, made up that cable last month, so this gives me a few options to create a SSB modulated signal..
Ideas are always appreciated, TNX,,

BTW, I should have been More Specific when I stated a continues signal,, Just typing to fast.. L

Play a .mp3 file (audio of your choice) from your computer into your IC-705 via a soundcard interface as if you were going to transmit the audio. Put the 705 on the lowest power setting & connect it to a dummy load. If you don't have or can't make a .mp3 file, email me directly. I'm good on QRZ.
You said in your original post you wanted a continuous source of test signal...is there a reason the 705 won't transmit continuously?
Alternately, if you have a RF signal generator with an external modulation input, then connect the line out of your computer sound card to it & play YouTube audio (podcast or whatever) into the sig gen.

I would think that a single or dual tone would be OK as you can look at the wave form for distortion. Also I might think that the demodulator might be in question, but it has been a long time since I have looked at the circuits for the Collins.
You might look at the output of the mechanical filter and sweep the audio through the bandpass and see what happens to the amplitude there and at the output of the audio stages.
A sideband signal is just a group if frequencies in the sideband with no carrier.
Since you are troubleshooting audio you might just tune in an AM broadcast station on 40 meters in AM and the switch to SSB and look at the signals in the circuits you are interested in. Since you are working on an 52S1 you could choose any SW broadcast station to provide the signal.
