Here's just a thought . . . don't test them at all until/unless you go to use one. 

For myself, I've got so much surplus stuff, and so little time to devote to projects, that I can take a few minutes (or less) to test something before it goes into a project. When I do, I rely on a few of those Chinese test modules from eBay, or just a DVM. It might be worthwhile to spend a little time putting together a simple test board for the regulators. It might make a niffy little Arduino project you could pull out when you need it.
