Thanks for your comments.

My intention is to have a more complete laboratory and to perform tasks
safely and easily. I would like to have an instrument like the MARCONI
2955A or failing the necessary tools to perform all tests and measures that
it allows.

The downside is the price of these instruments, therefore, I like to know
if you think interesting to invest in this type of instrument or not. I
have seen someone of second hand that are fairly priced.

My intention is to increase the time spent on repairs ham transceivers.

Antonio,

I have always done alignments etc. with weak signals off the air. Amazing what one can do with this ready-made test source, and save a lot of money at the same time. One can even tune mobile antenna length by this means, and by standing back from the antenna when testing. Robert, WA1ZMQ

AW: [Amateur-repairs] Radio test set recomendation

 

Scalar or better vector network analyzer

Does not need to cost an arm and a leg

Depending on what frequency area you wanna measure you can have good setup
for a few hundred bucks

Top end

Kc901s (verctor analyzer up to 3 ghz)

Kc901h (scalar analyzer up to 3 ghz)

Nwt4000 (look in evilbay ... grin)

Rf explorer (handy spectrum analyzer up to 2.5 gig with a nice lcd display
and can be also connected to pc)

Rf explorer transmitter (test transmitter that can be used with the explorer
mentioned above, synced from pc)

Mini60/sark100 (rf shortwave antenna analyzer that is nice to have and costs
below 100 bucks, handheld or with pc connection)

Low end

Etc etc

Several different things possible but I just wanted to give you some ideas
(yes I own some of them ... grin)

Do you also own an antenna analyzer??

Do you wanna measure filters and diplexers for repeaters

We would need some further info what is your goal

My personal thoughts are that you do not need an analyzer for most things
... but it makes MANY setups a lot easier (do an swr sweep over a big area,
zoom in to different bands etc etc)

Some things can be done with other setups ... but I can do some tests in
seconds where you would need several minutes... maybe more ... grin

I would suggest an (EICO) signal tracer. Used one in the service for years. Very handy and you can find the schematics online if you want to build one.72AB9QP Doug
