The first step in making things better for society is to care about things that don't affect you directly., especially working to improve those bad things that happen to people who aren't like you.
The next step is to care equally and without prejudice and bias about other peoples desires and opinions even when you don't agree, and to personally ensure you are giving them the right to want and get things that you yourself would not want.
